MODENA - ART FOOD AND CARS

1st day: Modena and surroundings

Arrival in Modena and accommodation in hotel in Modena or surroundings. Guided tour to Modena old city centre: the Cathedral, Piazza Grande and the Ghirlandina tower (UNESCO), the city hall and the Ducal Palace.

Visit of Albinelli Market The Liberty-style market hall in Via Albinelli was created in 1931, to house the stalls that had always been set up around Piazza Grande. The traders of the Mercato Albinelli proffer all types of produce and foodstuffs, including many typical of the locality, as well as certified goods.

Afternoon: visit of an acetaia where you’ll discover the Traditional Balsamic Vinegar of Modena DOP and Aceto Balsamico di Modena PGI or visit to a production of Lambrusco DOC wine with tasting. Guided tour to one of the scenic art cities in Modena surroundings (Carpi, Nonantola, Vignola, Castelvetro, Sassuolo,...). Dinner and overnight stay.

 

2nd day: Modena and Maranello

Morning: guided tour to a cheese dairy producing Parmigiano-Reggiano DOP.

Visit of the Museo Ferrari in Maranello or Enzo Ferrari museum in Modena,

Lunch in a restaurant.

DISCOVERING EMILIA ROMAGNA

1st day:  Modena

Arrival and check-in at the hotel in Modena or surroundings. Guided tour of the city centre. In its ancient heart of capital city of the Este Duchy Modena hosts architectural jewels appreciated all over the world: the Cathedral, the Ghirlandina tower and Piazza Grande, declared Heritage of Humanity by Unesco in 1997, the 17th century Ducal Palace, now site of the Military Academy. Suggested visit of one or more museums in Modena city centre: Cathedral museums, Civic museums, Estense Gallery, Estense Library, Figurina Museum (collectable cards).

Visit of Enzo Ferrari Museum, also known as MEF, is a combination of two fascinating buildings:  in the futuristic 2,500 m2 pillar-free hall, with its ultra-modern yellow-aluminum exterior designed by Jan Kaplicky to resemble the hood of a car,  you can admire the many cars exhibited, but also experience a show that – through an immersive biopic screened using 19 projectors – tells Enzo Ferrari’s incredible life story. Nearby, in the house where Enzo was born in 1898, you’ll find an amazing exhibition of Ferrari cars and engines.

Welcome dinner and overnight stay.

 

2 nd day: Carpi - Nonantola

Morning: visit of a cheese dairy with production of Parmigiano - Reggiano DOP. Guided tour of the scenic city centre of Carpi: Piazza Martiri, the Pio Palace, the church of Santa Maria in Castello, the church of San Nicolò. Visit of a production of Aceto Balsamico Tradizionale di Modena DOP (Traditional Balsamic Vinegar). Lunch in a restaurant with traditional menu. Afternoon: visit of the Benedictine Abbey in Nonantola founded in 8th century and dedicated to Saint Sylvester. Suggested visit of the Museo Benedettino Nonantolano Diocesano of sacred art and of the Abbey treasure. Overnight stay.

 

3rd day: Bologna - Dozza - Imola

Morning: transfer to Bologna. Visit of the Ducati Museum. Guided tour of the city centre: San Petronio church, Piazza Maggiore, the churches of Santo Stefano, Archiginnasio Palace. Lunch in a restaurant. Afternoon: transfer to Dozza, the village of painted walls. Guided tour to the regional wine cellar. Transfer to Imola. Visit of the Rocca Sforzesca and of a production of wine of Imola hills, Colli di Imola DOC, with guided tasting. Dinner and overnight stay.

 

4th day: Parma

Morning: transfer to Parma, guided tour of the old city centre: the Cathedral, the Baptistery and the Farnese Theatre. Visit to a production of Prosciutto di Parma DOP. Lunch.

Afternoon: Giuseppe Verdi tour, discovering the land where he was born and lived, Busseto and Roncole Verdi.

Dinner and overnight stay.

 

5th day: Reggio Emilia

Morning: transfer to Reggio Emilia and visit of the old city centre. Reggio Emilia is famous for being the place where the Italian tricolour was invented. A model of the original flag is kept at the Sala del Tricolore housed in the town hall in Piazza Prampolini. You’ll also visit the Basilica della Ghiara and the cathedral. Free time for lunch. Afternoon: tour on the hills near Reggio Emilia where you’ll admire scenic landscapes and castles that formed the defensive system of Matilde of Canossa lands: Canossa castle, Rossena fortified

manor and Bianello castle. Dinner and overnight stay.

 

6th day: Ferrara - Delta del Po

Morning: transfer to Ferrara and visit of the old city centre: Estense Castle, emblem of the power of the Este family and symbol of the town, Cathedral, ex-Jewish ghetto and Renaissance Ferrara. Lunch in a traditional restaurant in the medieval part of the town. Afternoon: boat excursion on the Delta del Po. Dinner and overnight stay.

 

7th day: Ravenna

Morning: Transfer to Ravenna. Guided tour of the old city centre: Mausoleum of Galla Placidia, Basilica of San Vitale, Battistero Neoniano, Battistero degli Ariani, Archbishop Chapel, Teodorico Mausoleum. Afternoon: visit to Sant’Apollinare in Classe. Dinner and overnight stay.

 

8th day: Sassuolo - Maranello - Vignola

Morning: transfer to Sassuolo and visit of the Ducal Palace, summer residence of the Estense dukes. Guided tour of the Museo Ferrari   in Maranello. The Museo Ferrari, which exhibits pictures, cars and the valuable trophies that have made it a world-wide recognised household name, is the site of the guarded motoring legend.

Visit of MUSA the charcuterie Museo owned by Villani company.

Afternoon: transfer to Vignola and visit of the castle Rocca dei Contrari. End of services.

 

The tour can be customized modifying its duration and sights, inserting, for instance a visit to Piacenza, Forlì or Rimini.

 

WINES AND FLAVOURS IN EMILIA ROMAGNA

Lasting: 4 days - 3 nights

1st day: Modena - Carpi

Arrival and check-in at the hotel or agriturismo in Modena or surroundings. Guided tour in Modena city centre focusing on gourmet places; food market, special food shops. Lunch in a trattoria with traditional menu. Afternoon: guided tour of Carpi old city centre. Visit to a production of Lambrusco DOC wine with guided tasting. Welcome dinner in a restaurant. 2nd day: Spilamberto – Vignola

Morning: transfer to Spilamberto, guided tour of the city centre, of the Traditional Balsamic Vinegar Museum and Consorteria in Villa Fabriani. Visit of the Ordine del Nocino (walnut liqueur). Lunch in restaurant. Transfer to Vignola and guided tour of the Contrari Castle. Visit of a production of Prosciutto di Modena DOP. Dinner in restaurant with a Gnocco fritto and Crescentine menu. Overnight stay.

 

3rd day: Bologna - Dozza

Morning: transfer to Bologna, guided tour of the city centre focusing on food and wine sites, the market, gourmet shops. Free time for lunch. Afternoon: transfer to Dozza, guided tour to the village famous for its painted walls, an open air museum. Visit of the Regional Wine Show room of Emilia Romagna located inside the Malvezzi - Campeggi castle.

Visit of a farm producing Colli Imolesi DOC wines with tasting. Overnight stay.

 

4th day: Parma

Morning: visit of a cheese dairy producing Parmigiano - Reggiano. Transfer to Parma and guided tour of the old city centre. Visit of a production of Culatello DOP or of Prosciutto di Parma DOP. End of services.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

A JOURNEY THROUGH THE LAND OF LAMBRUSCO AND TORTELLINI.

Lasting: 3 days - 2 nights

Where: Modena, Carpi, Sorbara, Bastiglia, Castelfranco Emilia, Villa Sorra.

 

1st day: Modena and surroundings

Arrival and check in at the hotel or agriturismo. Guided tour to the main sights of the city centre:

Cathedral, Piazza Grande, Ghirlandina Tower and Town Hall, where the famous stolen bucket is kept. During the tour you will be shown the old medieval measures on the Cathedral and the calendar on the Porta della Pescheria. Afternoon: cooking lesson to get to know the secrets of tortellini and egg fresh pasta. Dinner and overnight stay.

 

2nd day: Carpi - Sorbara - Bastiglia

Morning: visit of Carpi city centre, a Renaissance jewel. Lunch in agriturismo with tasting of Lambrusco Salamino di Santa Croce DOC.

Afternoon:  visit to an “acetaia” where Traditional Balsamic Vinegar of Modena DOP is produced and of a Sorbara Lambrusco Wine DOC production with guided tasting.

Overnight stay.

 

3rd day: Castelfranco Emilia - Nonantola

Morning: visit to a production of Parmigiano - Reggiano DOP cheese. Transfer to Castelfranco Emilia and lunch in a restaurant with traditional menu and tortellini and Lambrusco Grasparossa DOC tasting.

Afternoon: visit to Villa Sorra and its garden. It is one of the most important villas of Modena area. In its park we find an example of 1800 romantic garden, considered one of the most important informal gardens in Emilia Romagna. Visit to Nonantola Abbey. End of servic

 

GOURMET MOTORVALLEY TOUR ON CLASSIC CARS OR SUPERCARS

Lasting: 3 days - 2 nights

1st day: Modena

Arrival and check-in at the hotel or agriturismo in Modena or surroundings. Welcome drink. Guided

tour of Modena city centre. Dinner in a restaurant and overnight stay.

 

2nd day: Modena – Maranello – Castelvetro

Full day tour driving vintage or supercars. Pick up of the cars at the hotel, briefing, delivery of the road books. Departure. Visit of a cheese dairy producing organic Parmigiano - Reggiano DOP and of the Museo dell’ Auto e Moto d’Epoca Umberto Panini. It is home to a collection of about 40 cars, 30 motorbikes and a selection of bicycles, motors and interesting military vehicles. The vehicles in the collection are of great value to Maserati, also because they are unique: the “6CM” from 1936, of which only 27 were made and which dominated European races in the "small car" category and won the "Targa

Florio" award, the “A6GCS Berlinetta Pininfarina”, of which only four were made, which, with its "Barchetta" bodywork, won the “1000 Miglia” race in its category three times. Visit of an “acetaia” where you’ll discover and taste the Traditional Balsamic vinegar of Modena. Light lunch buffet with traditional food from Modena. Transfer to Maranello. Guided tour of the Ferrari Musuem in Maranello.   Half day tour driving vintage or supercars on the hills of Castelvetro.

The ancient medieval village of Castelvetro, blessed with a striking hillside location, stages several notable festivals over the course of the year. These include September’s Wine Festival, summer’s celebration of the absurd, AKA Mercurdo, and the ‘Splendour of the 16th Century’, featuring a historical cortege and party at the castle. The village is especially known for its Lambrusco Grasparossa di Castelvetro wine, along with walnut liqueur, honey, balsamic vinegar and Parmigiano Reggiano cheese, sampled in its handful of restaurants and surrounding rustic centres.

 

3rd day: Modena  

Morning: visit to the private Stanguellini museum, where you’ll admire the first Fiat Sport 750 and 1100 cars, the engine constructed entirely by Stanguellini in 1950 and also the glorious Stanguellini Junior 1100 from the 1960s, winner of the Montecarlo Junior GP of 1959, up to the famous Colibrì designed by Scaglione and the prestigious Formula 3, a jewel of sports creativity.

Visit of the Maserati factory and Show room in Modena.  Lunch in a agriturismo in Modena surroundings.

Delivery of the cars and end of services.

This program can be eventually completed by a cooking lesson for accompanying people

or for the whole group for a “cook & drive” experience.

 

 

 

BALSAMIC VINEGAR FROM MODENA AND PARMIGIANO- REGGIANO FROM PRODUCTION TO COOKING

Lasting: 3 days - 2 nights

1st day: Modena and surroundings

Arrival and check in at the hotel in Modena or surroundings. Visit to a wine cellar producing Modena Lambrusco DOC with tasting. Welcome dinner in a restaurant with Modena traditional menu. Briefing on following days program. Overnight stay.

 

2nd day: Modena and surroundings

Morning: visit to a cheese dairy where the process to produce Parmigiano - Reggiano DOP will be seen. Guided tour of Modena city centre and its food market with an introduction to the product of the area.

Afternoon: 3 hours cooking lesson with following dinner with the prepared menu. The lesson will focus on how to prepare “La pasta fresca” (fresh egg pasta), on different fillings and on the different shapes and ways to fold it. Every kind of pasta will be introduced with historical presentation. Overnight stay.

 

3rd day: Modena and surroundings

Morning: visit to an acetaia, production of Aceto Balsamico Tradizionale di Modena PDO and of Aceto Balsamico di Modena PGI  with guided tasting. Lunch in a restaurant with traditional menu. Afternoon: 3 hours cooking lesson with dinner.

Menu: “In the kitchen with Balsamico and Parmigiano - Reggiano”. End of services.
